I was born in Trelawny, Jamaica in 1957 and moved to England at ten to join my parents. We lived around London, where I got into the reggae scene. By the mid-'70s, I was deejaying on sound systems and later joined bands like The Spartans and Mighty Vibes. In 1980, I went solo and scored a UK reggae hit with “Good Morning.” The next year, Black Echoes named me 'Most Talented Singer.' As my music gained love in Jamaica, I recorded there and released my debut album Bank Robbery in 1984. I later teamed up with Jah Shaka for Jah Works and worked with producers like Bobby Digital and Junior Reid. In the '90s, I launched my label Imperial House and made a name in lovers rock with hits like “Sugar Love” and Iyaman.
