I’m Anthony “Chips” Richards, a lifelong champion of Jamaican music and its legendary artists. Moving to the UK in the 1960s, I witnessed reggae’s rise and played a key role in its growth as a marketing executive at Trojan Records in the early 1970s. I helped bring hits from Dave Barker & Ansell Collins, Nicky Thomas, and Ken Boothe to the mainstream, while also expanding reggae’s reach to Japan and Nigeria. For over 50 years, I’ve worked tirelessly to support and uplift reggae pioneers, ensuring they stay active and recognised. My dedication earned me Jamaica’s Badge of Honour and recognition at the Q Awards for my contributions to Trojan’s 50th anniversary. But above all, my greatest reward is seeing reggae’s legacy thrive and its artists get the respect they deserve.
